Biography

Katherine Ruth Bridges began her own yoga practice about 19 years ago starting with an interest in stretching while preparing for marathon running. Her interest in running has waned but her love of yoga has grown!

Over the years she has studied extensively with teachers in the lineage of Krisnamacharya including: Beryl Bender Birch (Power Yoga), Sri K. Patthabhi Jois and Eddie Stern (Ashtanga Yoga), Genny Kapuler (Iyengar Yoga), Mark Whitwell (Heart of Yoga), Diane Long (yoga of Vanda Scaravelli), Paul J.J. Alix (Viniyoga), Gary & Mirka Kraftsow (Vinigyoa), and most recently Srivatsa Ramaswami (Vinyasa Krama).

She has been studying Anatomy for the last ten years with Genny Kapuler in the tradition of Body Mind Centering. She has also been studying asana and pranayama with Yoganand Michael Carroll (Kripalu).  She recently completed a workshop on the Yoga Sutras with A.G. and Indra Mohan.

She is certified in the Viniyoga tradition of Desikachar and Kraftsow, receiving her Teacher Certification Diploma, at the 500 hour level, in November 2004 from the American Viniyoga Institute.

At the same time she continues to work professionally as a Landscape Architect designing gardens and New York City public parks.  She has an insatiable curiosity of plants, movement, health and nutrition.

Her continuing studies of Yoga have deepened her connection with the earth and enhanced her discovery of the internal awareness of the body, mind and spirit that comes with a regular yoga practice.
